Under the general direction of the City Manager, the Director of Special Events will be responsible for developing, coordinating and overseeing all of the City's special events and projects, exploring and securing available funding sources including but not limited to corporate sponsorships in support of these projects and researching potential new projects and events for possible development. Job Responsibilities • Position will require employee to work with the general public, volunteers, City departments, outside agencies, public officials and other stakeholders in the development of City special events and projects. • Will maintain and support current thematic projects (i.e., Christmas Parade, Fourth of July events, MXLAN, Fiesta de Palmas, etc.) • Will develop a comprehensive marketing plan to promote and develop City of McAllen special projects and events. • Will work with community agencies and facilities in the public, non-profit and private sectors to secure sponsorships and/or grants in support of City of McAllen special events.
