Magnolia Plantation & Gardens—one of the nation's oldest and most beloved historic attractions and a must-see destination in Charleston—is seeking a Special Events Coordinator who's ready to roll up their sleeves and make magic happen. In this role, you'll bring guest visions to life through the planning and seamless execution of internal events, external events, and guest operations support across our stunning gardens and historic spaces. This position requires being on-site and fully present for every event, serving as a hands-on leader from setup through close-out. We're looking for a true can-do, self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, hospitality-driven environment, anticipates needs before they arise, and takes pride in creating memorable experiences for every guest. What you will be doing:
Collaborate across the organization to support a wide range of events—including community stewardship initiatives, private events, music and arts programming, holiday celebrations, and creative experiences—that align with Magnolia Plantation's philosophy, increase guest attendance, and drive revenue. Lead initial event planning meetings, leveraging in-depth knowledge of Magnolia's grounds and venue logistics to identify creative solutions and additional spaces that meet guest needs. Develop detailed event schedules to ensure every element is covered and events run seamlessly. Oversee event logistics, coordinating staff responsibilities related to traffic flow, safety and security, setup, breakdown, and close-out procedures. Serve as the primary point of contact, welcoming guests, addressing questions and requests, and resolving concerns promptly and professionally. Conduct regular post-event debriefs with staff to review outcomes, identify opportunities for improvement, and communicate plans and expectations for upcoming events—always prioritizing guest comfort, safety, and an exceptional experience. Take a creative lead on additional special events and projects, including birthday parties and other unique celebrations. Learning internal systems and providing support for guest operations duties as needed. Perform additional duties as needed to support Magnolia's mission and goals, demonstrating a strong team-player mindset and willingness to jump in wherever needed. Who you are:
2+ years of experience in event planning, ideally in tourism or hospitality. A natural leader who can guide diverse teams, meet deadlines, and nudge when needed. Energetic, optimistic, and passionate about creating memorable guest experiences. Creative, adaptable, and a problem solver who keeps events running smoothly—even when the unexpected happens. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled at keeping schedules on track. Comfortable connecting with a wide variety of people, flexing your communication style as needed.
