Job Type The MEC will be part of the King Center's Events Department which is responsible for all of the event preparations, such as choosing venues, approving menus, developing seating plans, and evaluating success afterward. Excellent communication and attention to detail skills are vital in this role, as our success depends on meeting The King Center's tailored requirements. Essential to this role is the planning of The King Center's signature events for the annual King Holiday Observance (KHO) • Book venues and schedule guests, which includes confirmation and day-of logistics • Gain a complete understanding of the requirements for each event • Research vendors and make selections based on creativity, quality, and cost • Do final checks on the day of the event (e.g. tables, technology) to ensure everything meets standards • Establish and maintain great working relationships with vendors • Day-to-day administration of events and programs including placing orders, monitoring vendors, travel planning, restaurant reservations, facilitating TKC attendees, monitoring registration, tracking RSVPs, answering questions, and resolving issues • Oversee event happenings and act quickly to resolve problems • Ensure all events are mission-aligned and meet event goals and objectives • Evaluate event's success and submit reports • Assists with any other duties as requested Background, Experience, and Education: • Proven experience as an event coordinator • A proven track record of organizing successful events • Proficient in MS Office • Excellent vendor management skills • Knowledge of basic recruitment practices • Outstanding communication and negotiation ability • Well-organized with multi-tasking skills • Able to handle stress and remain calm • Problem-solving ability • Degree in hospitality management, public relations, or relevant field is required Additional Preferred Requirements: • Understanding and knowledge of Dr. King's teachings and nonviolent philosophy and methodology, including the Beloved Community.
