Head Cook – Off-Site Catering

We're looking for an experienced Head Cook to lead food production in our kitchen. You'll report

to our Kitchen Manager and direct the work of our prep/line cook. The ideal candidate knows

that catering is different from restaurant cooking: food is often served 2–4 hours after it leaves

the kitchen, and it has to hold its quality, texture, and temperature the entire time.

Responsibilities

 Prepare and cook menu items for events in our commercial kitchen, scaling recipes

accurately for groups of varying sizes.

 Plan cooking methods, timing, and menu execution with transport and holding in mind,

such as slightly undercooking items that will continue to cook while held and keeping

sauces and components separate until service.

 Pack food for transport using insulated carriers, hot boxes, and other holding equipment

so it stays at safe temperatures (135°F or above for hot foods) through delivery and

service.

 Monitor and log food temperatures at key points: end of cooking, packing, arrival, and

during service.

 Direct and support our cook, assigning prep tasks and ensuring consistent quality.

 Work with the Kitchen Manager on menu development, prep lists, event timelines, and

ingredient ordering.

 Maintain food safety and sanitation standards in line with the Ohio Uniform Food Safety

Code.

 Help keep the kitchen clean, organized, and inspection-ready.

 Occasionally assist on-site with setup or service as needed.

Qualifications

 3+ years of professional cooking experience, with at least 1 year in catering, banquets, or

high-volume food service strongly preferred.

 Proven knowledge of hot-holding, transporting, and serving food off-site while

maintaining quality and food safety.

 Experience leading or directing other kitchen staff.

 ServSafe Manager or Ohio Level Two Manager Certification in Food Protection (or

willingness to obtain within [60/90] days).

 Strong time management and the ability to work backward from a service time.

 Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work in a fast-paced environment.

 Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on the event

schedule.

 Valid driver's license

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
