The Manager of Events and Sales is accountable for achieving customer and revenue goals for all events at the Michigan Science Center. Event Sales and Business Development: • Research new business opportunities and markets for event space and rentals particularly in Midtown Detroit in collaboration with the leadership and director teams • Design and develop new event-related products and services • Generate new ways to activate existing exhibit galleries, theaters, and spaces • Work with the marketing team to facilitate creative advertising and proper promotion of events • Co-develop quarterly and annual sales strategies and goals, including stretch goals; develop annual budget goals and strategy with Chief Business Officer • Conduct vendor research, purchasing management, and contract negotiations to achieve the most favorable terms while selecting the optimal combination of quality and cost; this includes setting up and managing a list of preferred vendors • Maximize bookings to meet or exceed sales and net revenue goals • Generate contracts utilizing appropriate tools and systems to ensure events are properly billed and customers are signing off on and understand Mi-Sci event policies and rental rules • Process event payments and recording of event attendance in financial systems of record • Facilitate excellent customer relations and rapid responses to inquiries and change orders • Set new performance metrics and uphold high-level quality standards for all special events • Seek out new partnerships and continuously develop creative co-branding opportunities • Perform risk identification, reduction, assessments • Ensure all insurance requirements are met and certificates of insurance are properly filed and stored; Securespecial insurance for non-standard events as needed • Serve aslead on logistics or project manager for all large-scale events and support smaller events conducted by other departments through collaborative and seamless coordination; this includes Community Free Days, partnership days such as Brain Day and FIRST Lego League, Illuminate, VIP exhibit openings, media days, membership events and more • Provide excellent donor and member event support in concert with the Development team • Facilitate internal meetings for the CEO and staff team events and celebrations in collaboration with the Office of the President & CEO • Conduct event evaluation and submit post-implementation reviews and reports in collaboration with the Chief Business Officer • Perform other duties as assigned or required Primarily works in an onsite office environment often with a flexed weekend and evening work schedule.
