Overview:** The City of Jacksonville's Sports and Entertainment department is seeking a highly experienced Special Events Manager to develop and coordinate special events, including but not limited to building openings and dedications, conferences, and large-scale events. This position reports to the Executive Director/Sports and Entertainment Officer and is responsible for overseeing the... planning, coordination, and execution of events that align with the city's strategic focus and image. **Responsibilities:** • Develop, plan, and implement programs for special events, including but not limited to building openings and dedications, conferences, and large-scale events • Provide vision for events and enhancements as deemed appropriate for industry and event needs • Schedule, assign, review, and evaluate the work of subordinate supervisors and assigned staff • Oversee the special event permitting process and all tracking and reporting associated with City-permitted events • Coordinate and detail special events, including selection of entertainment, site location, and set-up, menu/vendors, seating, and itinerary based on event objective • Prepare and manage annual event budgets, in consultation with Finance Manager • Collaborate with Marketing and Sponsorship Managers during event planning process to ensure high-level awareness, revenue generation, and patron experiences • Communicate clear direction, manage for results, and lead organizational change, in accordance with strategic plan • *Qualifications:** • Ten years of education and/or professional experience in special events, sports, operations, or event planning • At least four years of management or supervisory experience • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (copy of college transcript required) • *Benefits:** The City of Jacksonville offers a comprehensive benefits package, including: • Medical, dental, and vision plans • Life insurance coverage for you and your dependents • Flexible spending plans for medical reimbursement, dependent care, parking, and transit expenses • Employee assistance program for you and your dependents • 457(b) tax-deferred compensation plan to supplement your retirement • ROTH IRA plan • Extensive wellness program, including health intervention program, lunch and learns, health fairs, and discounted gym memberships • Paid holidays and personal leave day • Opportunities for Federal Student Loan Forgiveness after 10 years of public service and on-time payments
