Position Purpose: The Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the organization’s human resources by planning, implementing and supporting employee relations, policies, programs and practices. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Serve as a liaison between management and employees by handling questions, interpreting and administering policy, procedures, laws, and helping resolve work related problems Partner with respective management team member to investigate or address employee relations issues such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other employee concerns Interact with airport authorities, government agencies, airline customers, and employees Contact new employees and evaluate the recruiting/onboarding and training process by gathering feedback about the applicant/employee experience Maintain current knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action guidelines and laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Prepare or maintain employment records related to events, such as hiring, termination, leaves, transfers, or promotions, using human resources management system software Provide management with information or training related to interviewing, performance appraisals, counseling techniques, or documentation of performance issues Facilitate new hire orientation on a weekly basis Process employee orders for New Hire Uniforms and ensure timely distribution Assist employees with general questions regarding company sponsored health benefits, 401(K), or tax forms, and forward such documentation to HDQ HR Schedule management conferences with employees; hearing and resolving employee grievances; counseling employees and/or leadership staff Attend employee engagement events and HR functions Perform other duties as assigned Competencies Knowledge of HR principles involved in business planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources Knowledge of principles and procedures for training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process Critical Thinking by using logic or reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems Establish and Maintain Interpersonal Relationships by developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time Communication; written & verbal (Bilingual preferred) Required Education & Experience: Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Business or Human Resources related field with 3-5 years of related experience with progressive HR practices The employee must occasionally be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
