The Woldumar Nature Association is a well-established 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to educating people about the natural environment. Since 1963, Woldumar has provided educational resources and natural experiences to the Greater Lansing Community and beyond. Serving over 6000 students annually, Woldumar offers seasonal day camps, field study programs, and community educational events to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of nature. The organization protects and restores over 180 acres of ecologically significant green spaces in southwest Lansing, Michigan, including diverse habitats like prairie, pine forest, wetlands, hardwood forest, and access to over 1.5 miles of Grand River shoreline. With five miles of hiking trails open daily, Woldumar is more than a nature center; it is a community hub that brings together members, volunteers, and sponsors to support its mission.

Woldumar’s natural area also serves as a popular venue for weddings, meetings, birthday parties, and other social events, which help generate funds to sustain its programs. Guided by a small year-round staff including an Executive Director, Program Director, Hospitality Manager, and Groundskeeper, the organization is in an exciting growth phase. The Hospitality Assistant role at Woldumar sits under the supervision of the Hospitality Manager and is a part-time, hourly position with seasonal work primarily during the peak event season from April to November. The hourly wage ranges from $13.73 to $15.50, based on experience, within an expected weekly schedule of 10 to 20 hours. The primary mission of this role is to provide exceptional customer service to guests attending wedding ceremonies, rental events at the nature center, and other visitors. This role actively supports event preparation and execution, including setting up and decorating facilities, arranging tables and chairs, and ensuring the venue is clean and welcoming.

Beyond event setup and teardown, the Hospitality Assistant greets guests during events, assists with logistics such as sound equipment and transportation via golf carts, and may supervise event features like bonfires. The role also includes community interaction through providing tours for prospective clients, managing client communications via phone and email, and supporting event planning processes. Flexibility is critical, as the assistant works mostly on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, often requiring physical stamina for tasks like lifting up to 35 pounds and working both indoors and outdoors. Training and orientation are provided on-site, along with opportunities for professional growth, including First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
