Communications/Special Events Coordinator

Special Events: Plan, organize and coordinate City signature events such as Starlight Parade, Chula Vista 4th Fest, HarborFest and various... groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings and other ceremonial City events; promote and execute advertising, public relations and marketing plans for City signature events and other events; plan logistics, develop and administer budgets, payments, and sponsorship funding for City signature events; coordinate other special event projects as needed with Downtown Chula Vista or other partner organizations; serve as liaison between residents, City departments, organizations, business owners, vendors, and event production companies in coordination of special events; present to City Council and City Management team. Marketing and Communications: Collaborate with communications team to develop and implement citywide marketing and communications program; collaborate with cross-functional teams from various City departments to promote initiatives and activities; assist with implementing City social media program with quality content on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms as needed; coordinate with agency partners; develop social media, web, marketing, public relations and other content for City newsletter and other City initiatives; identify appropriate media, including print and social media channels for targeted campaigns; create and or update web content using Granicus Content Management System; plan and manage the design, content and production of marketing materials as needed; work with graphic design consultants to produce marketing and other collateral; marketing/communications duties may include writing, editing, layout, photography, scheduling and coordination of printing and distribution. Knowledge of: Principles and practices of planning large-scale events (5,000 or more attendees), promotion and marketing; principles and practices of developing and managing sponsorship programs; principles and practices of developing and implementing social media programs; principles and practices of planning and implementing an effective communications program; creative design and content for promotional materials for special events; City government operations and functions; principles and techniques of graphic design; technology and computer applications related to area(s) of specialization; contract and budget management. Ability to: Plan, coordinate, and promote City and community events; communicate effectively, clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; compose, coordinate and edit a variety of informational and promotional materials and other documents such as brochures, fact sheets, pamphlets and newsletters for distribution to the community, private organizations, and businesses; research, analyze, and evaluate marketing and promotional methods and techniques; use computer software programs, hardware, and other technology pertinent to area of specialization; use a Content Management System to update City website; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a tactful and effective manner.
