The Catering Supervisor role at Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo is an opportunity to be part of a team that supports the zoo’s mission through excellence in food and beverage service for special events. The primary responsibility in this position is to ensure service delivery aligns perfectly with Banquet Event Orders (BEO), coordinating efficiently with the Catering Sales team to ensure flawless event execution. This role entails overseeing the setup of event spaces, managing timelines, and meeting client expectations seamlessly. The Catering Supervisor holds pre-function meetings with staff to communicate uniforms, assignments, and event specifics, ensuring preparedness and professionalism. Supervisory duties include leading Catering Servers and Bartenders during assigned shifts, guaranteeing adherence to departmental policies and procedures. The role also involves training new employees on food and beverage standards and continuously monitoring and improving service quality. Communication is vital, requiring coordination with kitchen staff to assure timely and proper food delivery, as well as collaboration with various Zoo partners and county personnel before, during, and after events. This leadership position demands commitment to the organizational mission by prioritizing conservation, environmental awareness, and animal welfare in all activities. Problem resolution skills are critical, as is the ability to manage guest complaints tactfully or escalate them appropriately. Additionally, the Catering Supervisor is responsible for confirming event details, managing event check payments through POS systems, and supporting related administrative tasks such as linen orders, event clean-ups, waste management, post-event reports, bank drops, and inventory controls. This role requires agility in managing multi-tasking scenarios in a fast-paced environment where event schedules may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. • Must be able to speak English
• must possess the ability to count money and make correct change
• must have excellent interpersonal communication skills
• must have the ability to ring in orders and settle checks on Point of Sale system
• previous food and beverage server experience a plus
• previous leadership experience preferred
• 3-5 years of related experience in event industry
• knowledge of Department of Health and Department of Labor codes
• computer knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook preferred
• demonstrative flexibility
• organizational skills
• ability to lift moderate to heavy items (50 lbs) while standing and/or walking
• shifts may include days, nights, nights and/or weekends and holidays
